On Sunday 25th April 2010 we welcomed back our former Rector, The Rt. Revd. Michael Lewis, now Bishop of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf, as our preacher at the Sung Eucharist. Beginning with a reminder that the ministry of Jesus involved raising up (both literally and metaphorically) Bishop Michael took as his theme that everything we do should Raise people up and Point to God. He developed this by saying that, as Christians, we must live our lives for God and project our faith by our actions within the community. The Christian Church is often accused of being inward-looking and self-referral. In our centenary year, Michael urged us to ensure that St Martin's priority should be to Raise up and Point to God.

After the service members of the congregation were able to socialise with Bishop Michael and his wife Julia. They left the parish of St Martin with St Peter in 1999 when Michael was being appointed a Suffragan Bishop in the Diocese of Manchester (the Bishopric of Middleton in Greater Manchester), prior to his present post in Cyprus and the Gulf.

This is the second of the special Services where we have invited former clergy to preach as St Martin's church continues with its centenary celebrations.
