On Saturday 30th April 211, the day after the Royal Wedding, St Martin's held it's own Community Tea Party to celebrate the Centenary as well as the Wedding! The doors opened at 2.30pm and in streamed our guests……guests who are our neighbours in the streets around St Martin’s and members of our comgregation. In pride of place was a splendid anniversary cake – cut by our oldest guest, Howard Llewellyn, older than St Martin’s itself, but in fine fettle, that said it all….!! Mr Lewwllyn, born on 15th March 1911, was one of the first to be baptised in the church
In the midst of bunting, pink and green balloons and with the sun streaming in, stretched two long rows of tables piled high with party fare -not forgetting the jellies!!
Guests were entertained with quizzes, a comic rendition and the choir leading a sing song culminating with the National Anthem, led by the Rector, followed by three cheers for Prince William and Catherine - the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge..
A wonderful afternoon filled with happiness and goodwill - 100 years of worshipping and reaching out to the people in t5he local community.
