On Sunday 18th July 2010 as part of St Martin's Centenary, a service was held to celebrate the sacrament of marriage, particularly for those who were married in St Martin's Church over the last century. We invited everyone who wished to say "thank you" to God for their marriage to join us in an act of worship. Wedding hymns and anthems, prayers, readings and an appropriate short address, were followed by a Blessing . During the service a celebratory cake was cut to mark the occasion and at the end the congregation enjoyed having wedding cake and the customary glass of champagne or bubbly - much appreciated!!!
Approximately 100 attended the service including one couple from Sydney Australia, married at St Martin's in the '60s; another celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary and lastly Sarah & Chris married in St Martin's just twelve months ago to the day - 18th July 2009 - their first Anniversary Within the congregation were some who had sadly lost their partners, but all present were able to give thanks for vows once made.
Thus the service was one of Celebration and Thanksgiving.
