From September 2011,
every 3rd Saturday of each month,
St Martin’s will have Messy Church.
We have had three Messy Church
events already, and yes we get a bit
messy but there’s water and towels
to clean us up too! Messy Church
began in Portsmouth by Lucy Moore,
and has spread throughout Great
Britain and even to other countries
around the world.

What Happens at Messy Church?
Families come to take part in art and craft activities, games, and lunch.
There is a short time of celebration where the Bible story is told, there are songs, and prayers. The art and craft activities are for mums and dads and their children to do together. These activities follow a theme and are fun for all ages to do. They range from painting, making masks, doing little cakes and even miniature gardens, to name but a few.
The leaders are CRB checked, there is a first aider and the lady who organises lunch has a food hygiene certificate. Ken the Rector and Phil the Curate help along with many other members of St Martin’s church family.
Some comments made by families attending are:
"It was wonderful to see the buzz of activity with everyone involved with something".
"It was so relaxed"
"Families were really enjoying and doing the activities together".
“The atmosphere was welcoming, especially with teas and coffees to add to the relaxed welcome”.
“The children wanted to come again”.
Who can come?
Children of any age, accompanied by parents, guardians or carers.
Messy Church begins at 10.00am on the third Saturday of each month, and it finishes after lunch at 12.15pm.
