Music at St Martin’s

Piano Appeal

St Martin’s Church is a valued place of worship and an excellent concert venue. It’s a beautiful building with a fine acoustic, appreciated by musicians and audiences, as well as worshippers.

Our current church piano is 75 years old and ready for retirement. We need to replace it with a good, medium-range grand piano, suitable for the building and all its musical uses. It will be a great asset to the music-loving community of Worcester, and we are asking music lovers to help with our fundraising.

At St Martin’s we are very keen to open our doors to the community as part of our mission, and to share the building of which we are custodians.

The Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra (WSO) is based at St Martin’s and we have regular visits from Worcester Cathedral Chamber Choir, Worcester Male Voice Choir, Severn Arts (formerly Worcestershire Youth Music) and the Elgar School of Music (ESM). Tiny Tunes, our joint project with the ESM, continues to develop and bring numerous young adults and children into the Church. We have strong links with local schools who regularly use the church, and piano, for services and concerts. Our popular Coffee Concerts for charity often use the piano and bring new people into the Church every month.

Music at St Martin’s launches its Piano Appeal with a

Grand Pianothon and Gift Day on Saturday 23 June

Opening at 10am, this is a whole day event of piano playing by professional musicians, talented amateurs and students, with party pieces, fun items for two, four and six hands, an opportunity to play your own party piece or make a request, and a few surprises!

Entry is free, and refreshments will be available throughout the day. At 7.30pm, local musicians Shulah Oliver and Tim Sidford will give a free violin and piano recital of popular classics, ‘From the Lark to the Light of the Moon’.

Vale Pianos of Evesham are kindly loaning us a fine concert piano for the day.
