About the Event
Music and readings in celebration of St Cecilia's Day
Worcester Cathedral Chamber Choir
Conductor: Stephen Shellard
Shulah Oliver (violin)
Christopher Allsop (piano and organ)
Gabrielle Bullock (reader)
Worcester Cathedral Chamber Choir members raise their voices to celebrate the patron saint of musicians. The programme spans the globe - France, Austria, Britain and America - and the centuries, with music by Purcell, Mozart, Fauré, Vaughan Williams (Serenade to Music and The Lark Ascending), Parry and Gershwin, and is interspersed with readings reflecting the evening’s theme and works by local musicians.
Worcester's Ian Venables has created the piece from which the concert takes its title, and 'Three Meditations' have come from city-born Steven Kings. The evening ends on an upbeat feel with a series of classic American songs arranged by former Worcester Cathedral Director of Music Dr Donald Hunt.
